Language Arts: Ethnic American Writers
Objective: Analyze and breakdown meaning of poems using the background theory of era and writer.

From the Discovery Education:

Video: Expression and Decline of the Harlem Renaissance
Use the pictures and video from the Discovery Education website to establish background on the era and the Harlem Renaissance. Let the students listen to some of Langston Hughes poems from the audio CDs then have them write what they think he means using what they are learned about the era and the author. After use the transparencies and activities from the Lesson Plan text to breakdown and discuss the poems and their meanings. Then use integrated assessment to see how well the students understood the tasks given.
